Medical reports cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) injuries
are being caused by car
accidents. Medical examinations have found that car accident
victims incur Carpal Tunnel Injuries to their wrists as a result
of firmly gripping the steering wheel at the moment of impact. Medical
studies indicate that the symptoms of CTS begin soon after the accident,
usually within a matter of a few days.
The symptom of pain most often found was tingling in the hand or
wrist; the second most frequent complaint was hand or wrist discomfort
pain; and lastly, weakness. In a majority of cases, both hands developed
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The injury is generallycaused by gripping
the steering wheel tightly at the moment of a car crash impact.
Splinting and immobilization of the wrists has been the required
treatment in most victims. More than one fourth of all Carpal Tunnel
Syndrom victims require surgery.
